Who We Are

Who We Are

When it comes to mission, Saco Bay Community Church cares about one thing more than anything else:

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST

We desire to know Christ and make Christ known by proclaiming the Good News of Jesus’s life, death, and resurrection for sinners, seeing people trust in Him alone for salvation, and grow in Him for the rest of their lives through the power of the Holy Spirit in them.

This is our mission today and this is what it has been since our inception in 1961.

SBCC is on mission to see the cities of Saco, Biddeford and Old Orchard Beach transformed by this Gospel.

We want you to know that no matter what your church experience has been (or not been) or wherever you are in your faith journey, you are welcome here.

Scroll down for a short explanation of what we mean by “The Gospel.”

WHAT IS THE GOSPEL?

The word “Gospel” means “Good News.”  It is an announcement about what God has done in His Son Jesus Christ to reconcile us to Himself.  Here is an easy way to think about the Gospel message:

GOD – God exists and is the Creator of all things (Gen. 1:1). He is holy, worthy of worship, and He does not overlook, ignore, or tolerate sin (1 John 1:5; Revelation 4:11; Romans 2:5-8; Habakkuk 1:13)

MAN – Though created by God good, all human beings are sinners by nature (Genesis 1:26-28, Psalm 51:5; Romans 3:23).  From birth, every human being is separated from God, hostile to God, and under the wrath of God (Ephesians 2:1-3).  This is bad news.

CHRIST – Jesus Christ, who is fully God and fully human, lived a sinless life, died on the cross in the place of all who believe in Him, and is risen from the grave in order to give His people eternal life (John 1:1; 1 Corinthians 15:3-5; Romans 3:21-16; Hebrews 7:26; 1 Timothy 2:5).

RESPONSE – The call to every person is to repent of their sin and believe in Christ.  Repent simply means to turn from sin.  A person must turn and place their faith in Jesus, trusting in His work on the cross for their salvation (Mark 1:15; Acts 20:21; Romans 10:9-10).
